Additional morphological characters and a new host for Aceria gymnoscuta Navia & Flechtmann (Acari, Eriophyidae) Zoologia
Bellini,Marcos R.; Feres,Reinaldo J. F.; Moraes,Gilberto J. de.
Aceria gymnoscuta Navia & Flechtmann, 2002 was originally described based on specimens collected on Syagrus cocoides Mart. and Syagrus flexuosa (Mart.) Becc. (Arecaceae). Slight variations in the dorsal shield pattern and the sternal line, in relation to the original description, and details on male and female genitalia are mentioned in this paper, based on specimens collected on a new host, Syagrus oleracea (Mart.) Becc.

First record of the olive bud mite Oxycenus maxwelli (Keifer) (Acari: Eriophyidae) from Brazil Neotropical Entomology
Reis,PR; Oliveira,AF de; Navia,D.
The mite Oxycenus maxwelli (Keifer) (Eriophyidae) is reported for the first time in Brazil infesting olive trees, Olea europaea. Specimens were found on seedlings at Maria da Fé, state of Minas Gerais, in 2007. Although minor symptoms were not noticed, significant damage to plants were observed. There is no reliable evidence of when the mite could have been introduced. It is believed that the mite occurs since the first introductions of olive trees, around 1820, through vegetative propagating material, but the mite remained unnoticed due to the lack of studies with olive trees in Brazil.

Life cycle of Retracrus johnstoni Keifer (Acari: Phytoptidae) Neotropical Entomology
Gondim Jr.,Manoel G.C.; Moraes,Gilberto J. de.
Eriophyoid mites are commonly associated to palm trees, although few of them have been reported causing economic damage to those plants. One exception is Retracrus johnstoni Keifer, a pest of Bactris gasipaes Kunth, plant used for palm heart production. R. jonhstoni is frequently found in large numbers on Arecaceae in southeast Brazil. The biology of this mite was studied under laboratory condition. Sections of leaves of the palm tree Syagrus romanzoffiana (Cham.) Glassman, with ca. 15 leaflets, were kept alive by maintaining their bases in distilled water. Ca. 20 field collected adults of R. johnstoni were transferred onto each leaflet for oviposition. After 24h, mites were removed, leaving only one egg laid. Once a day, the eggs and the subsequent stages...

Occurrence of Aceria tosichella in Brazil PAB
Pereira,Paulo Roberto Valle da Silva; Navia,Denise; Salvadori,José Roberto; Lau,Douglas.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the occurrence of Aceria tosichella Keifer (Prostigmata: Eriophyidae), the wheat curl mite, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Samples to detect A. tosichella specimens were collected in wheat, corn, oat crops and potential host grasses in 46 localities, in October 2006, August and October 2007. Samples of wheat were also collected in experimental greenhouses at Embrapa Trigo, Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil. A. tosichella specimens were found in wheat samples from Passo Fundo, Palmeira das Missões, São Luís Gonzaga, and Santo Antônio das Missões, RS, Brazil. Symptoms due to A. tosichella infestations were observed only in greenhouse conditions. This is the first report of A. tosichella in Brazil and the second in South America.
